Tet a.k.a Vietnamese New Year, is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. The word is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán, which is Sino-Vietnamese for “Feast of the First Morning of the First Day”. Tet celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar, which usually has the date falling in January or February.
Tet 2017 is the year of Rooster, starts from 26th January to 01st February. During that time, Vietnamese people visit their relatives and temples, forgetting about the troubles of the past year and hoping for a better upcoming year.
As it’s national holiday, all the Government agency as well as companies in Vietnam will off, including the Immigration Department. Thus, those who decide to travel to Vietnam in Tet holiday should apply for Vietnam visa on arrival in advance, better before 25th January. The Immigration office at the airport is still open, so as long as you have visa approval letter, you’ll get your visa stamp at the airport without any problem.
